branching out to bigger things

So, ive been thinking. Scary I know!

I see all these facebook pages up and running by stay at home mams and ladies my age, selling homemade bits and pieces and I must admit i'm tempted, very tempted...until I get the fear. Fear of rejection, fear that im not good enough or my makings wont be acceptable.

I love making things, it's my little addiction and release, and it would be great if I could make me a little bit of pocket money in the process. Not a major company or self employed or anything. Just enough to keep me out of trouble really.

I mean, madam keeps m busy all day, but I do have some evenings free, around cricket and spending time with the mister. I just need to pluck up the courage, maybe I might start by making a few things that would be ready to go instead of waiting on commisioned orders. Hmmm.

Then there's the worry that my work wouldn't be original ideas... and then theres the catchy business name...

One day i'll be brave enough...one day !  x

Resting in Peace... x

My dads final resting place. His ashes were scattered here on the 3rd anniversary of his passing in Fuertaventura, his favourite destination.

Gone, but never forgotten xx

My new addiction....

My name is Michelle and I am addicted to skirts !!

This is my second attempt, my first one was better in my opinion.

Due to the fabric being 100% cotton I didn't line it and the edges seem to fray quite badly. I initially tried to zigzag the edges but it wouldn't take and I gave up in the end.

It's a tad too big on the waist and a little long, although I may keep it this size and keep to one side for now. I have planned the next one already !! Blue and white polkadots, just choosing what shape to applique onto it.... any suggestions ?

Well... here's a glimpse of the latest addition to my new addiction x

Party skirt...no party !

My latest and most favourite make to date has to be this party skirt. after reading the tutorial and trying to get my head around it (I have a rather dense brain when it comes to patterns/ tutorials) I followed the instructions, which were thankfully accompanied by clear pictures !! This little beauty was created and I feel rather proud of myself for it.

It's the first item of clothing that I will be taking madam out of the house wearing and i'm hoping to create a few different skirts for her wardrobe !

Oh how I love my sewing machine !! x

First Ladies cricket match of the season...

Monday 9th May and first game of the season, in true English fashion, the weather played its part and it was called off at the final hour.

I'm still nervous about playing but i'm getting there and as they say practise makes perfect.

This season, I WILL get wickets. Will keep you posted !

Lets hope Thursday's weather holds out for the match against Wylam !!

Upcycling

So, after ruining a top I adore ... damn you leaking cardigan !!

I decided I couldn't just throw it out could I? So I did what I do best... procrastinate, and then..... These beauties were born, well, not actually born but sewn.

Madams favourite things are birdies (why I bought this top in the first place) They were my first attempt at shorts and they fit remarkably well. I've not used elastic before and had a few issues at first.

Now...to convince my lovely Mr that I need an overlocker..... x

10 things about me that you possibly weren't aware of..

So, having been tagged by lovely Betty-B to write 10 things you didn't know about me for the Kreativ Blog Award, I couldn't not oblige, could I ?

The rules are:
1. Link to 10 other blogs
2. Tell these bloggers about the Kreativ Blogger award
3. Write 10 facts about yourself
I fear once this gets started this is going to be like verbal diarreah, so apologies in advance and congratulations if you make it to the end of this post.

1, I moved from Luton to Newcastle in May 2006, actually... weirdly it was 5 years ago today !! ooooh spooky. I still have my Southern accent and hope my madam picks up my accent too ;o)

2, Every time I eat chocolate I feel the need to have red wine, also when I have red wine I feel the need to have chocolate. As you can probably imagine, I eat and drink alot of both.

3, I play in a womens cricket team. Before I met my Mr I hated cricket ! When I found his love of the game I figured if I didnt learn to love it, I would lose him every weekend. As they say, if you can't beat them... join them.

4, I hate birds !! They aren't so bad if they are still but as soon as they flap... arrrgh *shudder* they freak me out !! MY love for my madam shows in the fact that I have put a bird feeder up near the window so she can see the birdies close up... not good for my nerves !!

5, On that note... Im scared of hair ! not like on people's head but loose hair, like pet hair and on a hair brush. It's the fear of choking on it.

6, My not so secret guilty pleasure is Deal or No Deal. I very rarely miss an episode. Worringly... Madam calls Noel Dada... Don't worry, there will not be any NOTW headlines about a love child !

7, I have a major passion for sewing. I've picked it up from tutorials and books as I haven't done any since my school days. My lovely Mr's mam gave me her Frister- Rossman for my birthday and my Mr got it serviced for me. Its a slight addiction on my part.

8, I am a complete book worm, although, the only place I read is the bath. There is only downside..when there isn't enough hot water !! Luckily for me I don't wrinkle quickly. It's been known that i've been in the bath that long i've had to be checked on for fear i've fallen asleep. Thankfully this wasn't the case, I was very engrossed in the book !

9, I have never had chicken pox, I had tests when pregnant and I have no immunity at all, therefore, i'm rather nervous for when madam picks it up...

10, Lastly, i'm a soap nerd !!!

Hope that wasn't too boring for you all :o) x

dress to impress?

So, I finished my latest project, this has been a work in progress and I have left it and left it for fear of ruining, this is the 3rd attempt at it mind. I asked for help this time for the niggly bits that frustrated me and it turned out very nicely.

The stitching along the bottom is a little wonky in places and I think I may attempt a sash to make the bac sit better as its a little baggy.

Overall, not a bad effort. I adore the fabric, i've refrained from red clothing for fear of clashing with madams hair colour, however, I couldn't resist it as I instantly thought "dress" when I saw it
